At UCT Online High School, we use two versions of The Invigilator App to help maintain academic integrity during non-venue-based assessments: the mobile Invigilator App and The Invigilator Web Browser App (desktop). For Cycle Tests or Exams, you are required to log in via TIA, scan a QR code, or input an Access Code to obtain the quiz password/PIN required to start your assessment.

This article outlines how to find the QR code or access code needed to start your Cycle Test or Exam for both UCT OHS and SACAI papers.

Instructions

Step 1: Navigate to the module on the Online Campus for which you will be writing your Cycle Test/Exam. See below as an example:

Step 2: Click on the Cycle Test/Exam component. This will then open up a Key information list, containing important details relevant to the assessment, including the QR code. Alternatively, you can use the Access Code displayed below the QR code to retrieve the password in The Invigilator Web Browser App.

Step 3: Scan the QR code on the Online Campus using The Invigilator App, after which the app will reveal the quiz password you will need to start the Cycle Test/Exam. Please write down this quiz password as you might need to use it in case your computer restarts. The password can be found in the "Start Exam With Pin" field within TIA after scanning the QR code or entering the Access Code.

Step 4: On the UCT Online Campus, click the ‘Attempt Quiz now’ or ‘Start attempt’ button.

Step 5: After clicking on ‘Attempt Quiz now’ or ‘Start attempt’, you will be prompted to enter the quiz password that you received in The Invigilator App. Make sure you enter it exactly as it is on The Invigilator App, e.g. UCTOHS-5121 (without spaces and in ALL CAPS).

Step 6: You can then enter the quiz password and select ‘Start attempt to gain access to the question paper and begin the Cycle Test/Exam’.

Troubleshooting Common Password Issues

  • Can’t Find Your Password: Double-check the “Start Exam With Pin” field in TIA Web Browser or directions provided in the Online Campus.

  • Encountering Error 'NaN' on TIA: If the password field displays 'NaN,' refresh your browser or restart the TIA Web Browser App.

  • Why is My Password Not Working? Confirm if you are attempting a SACAI-specific password or UCT password. Each password has a distinct application, so cross-reference instructions.

SACAI-Specific Passwords

SACAI papers require a second password to open PDF question papers. This password is provided in the Online Campus instructions under the Exam Module or exam page.

Important Notes for Learners

  1. Pre-Assessments: Complete the Demo Test on TIA beforehand to ensure smooth password access.

  2. Password Availability: Obtain passwords immediately before your exam session as they may time out.

  3. Submission: After completing your written answers, scan and upload your answer script using TIA Mobile App. PDFs are acceptable submissions.

  4. Contact Support: For escalation, technical issues, or lost passwords, contact UCT OHS Tech Support or Invigilator App Helplines.

After following the steps outlined in this article, you will be able to find a Cycle Test/Exam’s QR code on the Online Campus. You will then be able to scan this code using The Invigilator App to obtain the quiz password/pin necessary to start your assessment.
